Relationships

This page lists a quick overview of the characters who have either played a significant role in Yuber's history or who have been affected greatly by Yuber. He's not exactly sociable nor popular, so the list isn't very long. There may be a few spoilers for the first three Suikoden games scattered about here. The card images were taken from the Konami Japan gallery. Any official pictures were taken from Suikosource. Zepon's picture was screencapped.

Neclord

A perverted vampire who enjoys kidnapping girls (including the incredibly underage), having his way with them, and then sucking them dry... I mean drinking their blood, of course. He works with Windy and Yuber for several centuries until his supposed "death" in the middle of the Gate Rune War. There's very little interaction between the two that we see. They don't seem to be particularly friendly or conflictive toward each other.

Ted

Tyr McDohl's best friend and the bearer of the Souleater Rune until the beginning of Suikoden I. Three hundred years befor the start of the game, Yuber, Windy, and Neclord visited his hometown, The Village of the Hidden Rune. While Windy tried to talk the elder of the village into giving up the rune, Yuber apparently "got bored" and decided to burn the village to the ground. Ted is the only villager to survive the ensuing slaughter. Though they never mention each other, Ted most probably harbors a great deal of hatred toward Yuber for the massacre of his village. After all, without the destruction of his hometown, most of what's happened in Ted's life could have been avoided.

Sarah

Many in Suikoden III refer to her as Luc's attendant, but she's in fact a sort of adopted sister. After Luc saved her from a life of imprisonment when she was a child, Sarah lived with him under the care of Lady Leknaat. She leaves with Luc to help him with his plans alongside Albert and Yuber. Though she works with him, Sarah obviously doesn't like Yuber at all. The two consistently have spats or make snide remarks towards one another during the course of the game. Their attitude towards each other in all times in between is never pleasant.

Albert Silverberg

The eldest of Leon Silverberg's grandsons. Albert works as Luc's strategist in Suikoden III and helps orchestrate the carefully timed, behind-the-scene events which spark The Second Fire-Bringer War. He apparently read the family confidential book his grandfather had written concerning Yuber and learned to summon him himself. Though Albert is the one who summoned him, we don't see him order Yuber around very much. In fact, Albert seems to tell Sarah what to do a lot more than he does Yuber.

It's difficult to surmise their attitude toward each other. Albert never shows any signs of fearing Yuber nor does he approach him casually. Yuber does occasionally get snippy with him, but Albert seems to brush off any comments that come his way. In a nutshell, they don't seem to either respect or hate each other.

Zepon

The chief of the Lizard Clan at the beginning of Suikoden III. It's unclear how old Zepon is or even what he looks like since he was hidden by shadows during his only scene. Apparently, he participated in the war with the original Flame Champion 50 years before the game's start and seems to be comrades with Geddoe. Zepon never says anything to hint that he's come into contact with Yuber before. However, during the Bonus Chapter, Yuber specifically mentions Zepon, saying he "has an old score to settle" with him. Unfortunately, this is the only hint we're given to their relation since Yuber assassinates Zepon soon after. This along with Luc and Sarah's Zexen Knight phantoms spark the beginning of what will soon become The Second Fire-Bringer War.

Leknaat

The mysterious, blind sorceress who has the ability to foresee the future and seems to watch over the flow and fate of the world. Neither Leknaat nor Yuber have ever mentioned each other, so her appearance on this list is pure speculation. With the exception of Suikoden III (for her own personal reasons), Leknaat always appears before the unlucky individuals who have recently acquired one of the 27 True Runes. Though her vague dialogue tends to confuse characters at first, she seems to try to help guide newfound runebearers in the "correct" direction by warning them about their True Rune and what awaits them in the future with such a burden.

In any case, Yuber possesses the True Rune Hachifusa himself. It's very unlikely Leknaat never paid him a visit in the centuries he's possessed his rune, especially since Suikoden's original creators hinted at Yuber playing a vital role in the final Suikoden. It's a very interesting encounter to consider, even more so if you wonder whether it occurred before or after Yuber's supposed hatred for True Runes spawned. Unfortunately, speculation is the only thing fans have concerning these two.
